Design Workshop & Project Presentation
International Design Workshop | April–May 2019
Participated in a two-week design workshop led by Arijit Chatterjee and Asha Sumra, exploring floating architecture as a response to the dynamic land–water relationships of the Bengal Delta. Presented and discussed design proposals investigating how adaptable floating structures could support human activities while responding to the region's changing ecological conditions.
Distinctions, research competition honours, invited lectures, and institutional accolades across design and spatial science.

Cities often fail not because they lack buildings or roads, but because they lose the spaces between them. Through Urban Weave, Broadway in Lubbock, Texas, is reimagined as a connected public realm where movement, ecology, and social interaction are integrated. Parking lots, hard surfaces, and inactive street edges are reconsidered as opportunities for public use and ecological regeneration. A Hybrid Public Realm is proposed, in which indoor activity anchors, transitional spaces along building edges, and underused parcels are connected. Through this network, pedestrian movement is supported, and spaces for gathering and everyday activities are introduced. Climate comfort is treated as essential public infrastructure. Shade, planting, permeable surfaces, and stormwater systems are incorporated to support outdoor life in a semi-arid climate. Time is also used as a design material. Pocket spaces are programmed for daily activities, weekly markets, and seasonal events, allowing changing community needs to be accommodated throughout the year. Through these interventions, Broadway is envisioned as a cooler, greener, and socially active civic corridor where opportunities for movement, rest, and shared experiences are expanded. Environmental change is often experienced by communities before it is documented in formal datasets. Through Voices of the Delta, community observations are translated into spatial evidence in Chalitabunia, coastal Bangladesh. In this rural setting, where access to technology is limited and environmental data are scarce, residents’ knowledge is used to document changes in water, soil, crops, and fisheries. Observations were gathered from 35 households across 10 sampling grids over two years. Participation was supported through community representatives, market hubs, and assisted reporting. Reported changes were located using familiar roads, canals, and landmarks. Environmental change was examined through its effects on respondents’ livelihoods. Changes in drinking water, soil conditions, agricultural productivity, and fisheries were recorded, connecting ecological stress with everyday experience. These observations were organized into mapped indicators of water, soil, and combined stress. Areas requiring further verification, monitoring, and response were identified through this process. Through Voices of the Delta, community knowledge is positioned as a foundation for environmental inquiry, and local voices are brought into discussions of landscape regeneration.
